Families are complex tapestries woven by generations of genetic and inter-relational strands bound together; warps and wefts of what we inherit and what we learn. By looking introspectively into the relationships that I have with my family, I honor our traditions through craft, steer the trajectory of my lineage, manifest the silent apparition of generational trauma and release it in the ritual of making and shared experiences. We don’t get to choose our families, but we decide how to move about with what we have inherited, keeping taut the tether that binds or using one swift snip to cut ourselves loose.
